Rocco is doing AMAZING!
Speech wise, he is just talking up a STORM! The progression he has made the last months is just SO amazing and rewarding <3
Yes it can be overwhelming with ALL the therapy, BUT yes this is my baby and I will do anything I can to help him thrive. He needs all this help, and I am beyond grateful to GOD and all the therapists that help him. Plus, I have to give Mike and I kudos for being amazing parents and his biggest advocate <3
The progress with his sister has been AMAZING, too! If you watch my instagram stories, you will see lots of videos of them together! ( @healthydiva )
He even NOW understands that if the baby is crying, if he goes over to her, she will stop! So he does this all the time now, and she LOVES it! She sometimes is just being cranky for no reason, and he goes over and she is no more cranky! Haha!
Now, one struggle we have had and still do is food. As some kids on the spectrum REALLY struggle with eating a variety of foods and eating out in social settings. Rocco struggles with both, and he is getting evaluated for food therapy tomorrow! He definitely will qualify, and we are excited for this , as this is going to be so good. He really has been super picky lately and also having some oral sensory issues arise all of a sudden last month. He puts every toy in his mouth, and he never has done this. The OT and Food therapy will help!
NOW, let me back up and explain what happened to the prior place we were going to get him in. They dropped the ball, and I am not even going to mention name of center. Really, I am sad about it, as there are so many kids that need the help with therapy, and this place was NOT responding to us. We literally would call and leave messages and nobody would call back. We finally got through to someone, set up a speech evaluation ( he does get speech through other service too, just want more added ) and he qualified and was ready to get speech there. But they wanted us to get his OT evaluation too, before we could start speech or ot. Well, then we tried to set that up and NOBODY would call back. I was just in disbelief, how unprofessional they could be. The last two calls I made, I even told the lady who answered how nobody is calling us back and we need to get ball rolling on OT evaluation, so we can get his services started. No CALL BACK.
So, that is why we are now going elsewhere, and we are very excited as the people there have been SO nice and SO efficient and on the ball.
He will get a speech evaluation there, too. In the end he will get speech/ot/food therapy there starting late August! He is going to be SUPER busy with this outpatient therapy, his socialization outpatient therapy he has , and when school starts in September 3 days a week! ( pre-school for kids on the spectrum )
I am sad in a way, he will be gone so much, but know this is ESSENTIAL. He needs all this help to keep progressing and thriving like he is! I am just so proud of the progress he has made and excited for more on this journey!
Thank you all for allowing me to share his journey. I hope I can help other parents who have a child on the spectrum not feel so alone, as I know sometimes it can be hard.
AND my friend and I are starting to get things rolling with the non profit, where we will be raising funds to get some new stuff for one of the outpatient centers our kids attend. We want the kids to have a sensory room added and more! VERY EXCITED about the things to come with this, as we want to do whatever we can to help these kids that need it! <3
Thank you again for letting me share Rocco’s journey and for those who are always so kind <3
This little boy has made us see the world in the most beautiful way and has made us appreciate the little things even more <3
